Violent anti-war demo In the spring of 2003, I was covering news from Norway for The Associated Press while the Oslo correspondent was with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit in Iraq. One of my tasks was to keep an eye on demonstrations against the war in Iraq. Not all of them were peaceful, and these people started throwing bricks, eggs, paint and bottles at the police outside the American embassy. The police responded with pepper spray, nightsticks, horses and biting dogs.

Tehran Pictures from Tehran, December 2001. This was my first stop in my quest for Osama bin Laden. I didn't find anything of this in Tehran, the capital of Iran, but I enjoyed smoking the water pipe, and girls took off their vails, just for me. In this picture, you see me smoking the water pipe. Seriously, I don't smoke, but the water pipe was special. And this is not opium!

Afghanistan After Osama bin Laden destroyed a couple of buildings in America on Sept. 11, 2001, he also destroyed my business in the Balkans. Therefore, I traveled to Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan to look for friend Osama. I didn't find Osama himself, but many small bin Ladens. These pictures I took in the camp Mile 46 just inside Afghanistan on the border to Iran and Pakistan.

Family reunion In August 2000 my extended family had a family reunion, you know the kind of events where you meet people you don't really know who are. In any case, this was fun, and on this picture, you see Jakob and Sigrunn, children of some of my cousins who have found each other.

My hometown
I grew up mostly in a little town called Klębu, 20 kilometers south of Trondheim, Norway's third biggest city 500 kilometers north of the capital Oslo. My father got a stroke back in 1992, and now my parents have built their house there adapted to wheelchair users.

Balkan's biggest BBQ festival In a blanket of barbecue smoke, a skinny Norwegian journalist found his way to the biggest barbecue festival in the Balkans. In one week in September 2003, I was exposed to more meat than I have ever seen in my life. The winner of the most prizes above will be the overall winner. In a world dominated by men, this years overall champion was Bojana Mirkovic, a woman with 20 years of experience from the barbecue trade. Mirkovic is confident in her own abilities.

Serbian wedding My best friend, Samuil Petrovski, married on May 31, 2003, and 10 wild horses could not keep me from returning to his wedding. Serbian weddings are not the quiet kind you will maybe find in other countries. Here there is full speed from beginning to end. In this picture, you see me with my camera, as usual, and I take pictures of Gypsy troubadours playing quite loud with trumpets, trombones, tubas and drums. If I ever get married in Serbia, I will hire Gypsy troubadours, for sure!

Summer camp When I'm in Serbia, I spend much of my free time helping the student organization Evangelcal University Students, affiliated with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. Every summer they have camps at the Montegrin coast, and here are the pictures from the last camp in Ulcinj, close to the Albanian border.
